Marco Iansiti

Originally a physicist, Marco Iansiti joined the faculty of the Harvard Business School in 1989. He has created two courses, Starting New Ventures (with Prof. Myra Hart) and Managing Product Development, and has taught a variety of Executive and MBA courses on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Operations.

Professor Iansiti's research has focused on technological innovation, product development, entrepreneurship and operations seeking the drivers of productivity, flexibility and adaptation in organizations. Over more than ten years, Iansiti investigated more than 100 companies ranging from dominant players like Microsoft, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Ford Motor Company, Unilever, and ATT to ventures like Yahoo! and SupplierMarket/Ariba. He has advised a wide variety of Fortune 500 firms in industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to software, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Mobilian, and Model N Inc.

Professor Iansiti's current research investigates the implementation of successful strategies for companies who wish to better understand and manage innovation and operations in complex networked industries, also known as "business ecosystems." The work focuses on the key drivers of sustained profitability, value creation and operating leverage.

Professor Iansiti has authored and co-authored more than fifty articles, papers, book chapters, cases, and notes. His previous books, "Technology Integration: Making Critical Choices in a Dynamic World," and "Keystone: Strategies for Managing Business Ecosystems" were published by Harvard Business School Press.

Professor Iansiti received A.B. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Harvard.
